On Thursday, December 10, 2015 our AFSCME Clerical Bargaining Table Committee reached a tentative agreement with the University for the July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2017 contract. Our committee recommends that you vote in favor of this agreement.

AFSCME and Teamsters Testify at the Board of Regents Budget Hearing

On Friday, June 12 the Regents held their annual Public Hearing where the University community has the opportunity to give their comments on the budget. Members of AFSCME 3800 and Teamsters 320 spoke on behalf of the 4,000 frontline workers at the U of MN. We testified about the growing economic gap between administrators and frontline workers, disparities in benefits between employee groups, and the need for real wage increases for frontline workers. We also shared first hand experiences regarding the struggle to make ends meet and to raise a family and retire with dignity.

IB ImageThe University of Minnesota is building a caste system that increasingly takes care of those at the top while it pushes lower-paid, frontline workers further and further behind, union activists told the Board of Regents Friday.

“The University’s wage and benefit policies increase the gap between the haves and have-nots, and it’s got to stop,” says Cherrene Horazuk, president of Clerical Workers Local 3800.

Unions appeal OIT employee layoffs (MN Daily)

Union leaders are fighting the layoffs of 25 University of Minnesota Office of Information Technology employees, citing problems with understaffing and the way the layoffs occurred.

Representatives from the University’s clerical union have filed grievances on the layoffs and requested the University re-evaluate them. They also addressed the Board of Regents at its public forum on the University budget last week about the layoffs, which occurred late last month.

Negotiations Table Committee & Consultative Assembly Elected

At the March membership meeting Local 3800 members elected our negotiations Table Committee and Consultative Assembly. New this year, the Consultative Assembly is open to any member in good standing and is responsible for gathering input and disseminating information about negotiations to the full membership.
