2015-2017 Contract Ratified by our Membership

After an incredible contract campaign that won key demands from the University Administration, we counted our members' ballots last night on whether to accept the tentative agreement. The members of AFSCME Local 3800 and Local 3801 (Clerical, UMD) voted by majority to ratify the Tentative Agreement for 2015-2017.

The final steps in the process are approval by the Board of Regents and official signing by the negotiating committees. The Regents are scheduled to vote at their February 12 meeting. We invite you to join other AFSCME members and coworkers at the meeting. Please wear your AFSCME t-shirt on Friday, February 12 to show your solidarity with your union coworkers. Once the agreement has been ratified by the Regents, the contract will be proofed and then signed by our union negotiating committee and management.

New Pay Rates and Retro Pay:
The new pay rates will show up on our March 16 paychecks. The retro pay (back to June 29, 2015) will appear on our March 30 paychecks. We will send a reminder out to everybody prior to the March 30 payday so you can adjust your withholding to minimize the taxes taken out.

Highlights of the agreement include:
Clerical workers who are not at the top of the pay scale will receive 7% increases over the course of the contract: 1.5% across the board each year, plus the 2% step increases on your anniversary date that are already set in the contract.
Clerical workers who are at the top of the pay scale will receive 3.5% in increases over the course of the contract: 1.5% across the board in year one, and 2% in year two.
Year one increases are retroactive to June 29, 2015.
Year two increases are effective June 13, 2016
A $15 minimum wage for all clerical positions, effective June 29, 2015
Six weeks of paid parental leave for birth mothers
Memorandum of Understanding to address workplace bullying
No insurance plan changes for 2016 or 2017. No premium increases for health insurance and minimal premium increases in dental insurance for 2016.

When we collectively raise our voices, we have the power to win. This agreement was reached due to our unified contract campaign with AFSCME Locals 3801, 3800, 3937, and 3260 and Teamsters 320; solidarity from faculty, students, non-unionized staff at the University and our community and union allies throughout the state; and most importantly, the dedicated and ongoing actions of our members. Thank you!
