The newly-elected chair officers of AFSCME Council 5 - Carmen Brown (Local 977), Destiny Dusosky (Local 753), Cherrene Horazuk (Local 3800) and Pat Guernsey (Local 552).

Congratulations to Cherrene Horazuk, SvenErik Olsen, and Brad Sigal, who were all elected to the AFSCME Council 5 Executive Board at the Annual Convention in September. All three were part of a slate that called for an  inclusive leadership that will support local contract fights. The slate won the four chair officer positions, including Cherrene Horazuk as Secretary and a significant number of Executive Board spots, and will lead the 43,000 member union for a two-year term.

The newly elected Council 5 chair officers are:

  • President Pat Guernsey; president of Local 552, Hennepin County probation & family court services; probation officer.
  • Vice President Carmen Brown; president of HCMC Local 977; patient services coordinator.
  • Treasurer Destiny Dusosky; Local 753 at St. Cloud State University; maintenance worker.
  • Secretary Cherrene Horazuk; president of U of M Local 3800; clerical worker in the Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

SvenErik Olsen, clerical worker in the Cancer Center,  was elected as a representative of the University of Minnesota sector. Brad Sigal, clerical worker in CEHD, was elected as a representative of the East Metro district. “Members want a member-driven, inclusive Council where we’re building stronger locals and fighting for better contracts,” Horazuk says. “I’m proud to serve our 43,000 workers,” Guernsey says. “Our election was the result of a well-organized campaign.” Guernsey says the first thing on their agenda will be electing Tim Walz and Peggy Flanagan, who are staunch supporters of workers and our families, as Governor and Lieutenant Governor.
