Back at work...the struggle continues

Return to Work

Thursday morning is the deadline for all striking workers to return to their regular work schedule. Please make sure to report to work by then. We hope everyone has had a smooth transition and a warm welcome back to work from your co-workers.

Once you are back in the workplace, if you feel you may have been harassed, discriminated against, or mistreated in any way as a result of your decision to go on strike, please contact the union’s chief steward at 612-281-9010.

Voting on the Settlement Offer

Our union negotiating committee made the decision to end the strike last Friday and send the University administration's settlement offer to union members for a vote. The two-year contract offer contains a 2.25 percent cost of living increase for clerical workers, plus steps and a $300 lump sum in each year of the contract. Workers who are at the top of their range will get an additional $300 in each year of the contract. Additional details of the settlement offer will be sent to you with the voting ballot.

The union negotiating committee is bringing the administration’s settlement offer to a vote without recommendation.

We will be voting in early October. You will be notified of exact dates soon. Voting will take place by mail ballot. All members will receive a ballot along with details of the settlement offer at your home address. All fair share fee payers (non-members) will receive a ballot, details of the settlement offer, and a membership card at your home address. Fair share people can vote if they return the completed membership card along with their ballot. (note: rules for union membership and voting requirements are set by Minnesota labor law, not by our union).

Back at Work…the Struggle Continues

AFSCME members have gone back to work, but that doesn’t mean our struggle for economic justice is over. We are continuing to organize and fight for a living wage, from the workplace.

We'll be having informational meetings all around campus in the coming weeks to talk about the upcoming vote and the next steps in our ongoing struggle to stand up for our standard of living. Another email with more details on the vote and next steps will be coming soon.
